Blue Springs is the 8th largest city in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. As of the 2010 United States Census the population was 52,575. Board of Education Receives Magna Award
The Blue Springs School District’s Board of Education was recently named a 2017 Magna Award winner at the NSBA’s 2017 Annual Awards. For more than 20 years, the Magna Awards have recognized innovative school district programs supported by board governance. The Blue Springs Board of Education was honored for the Project ZAM (Zoo and Me) Program, which through a partnership with the Kansas City Zoo taught early childhood students about different zoo animals and provided kindergarten readiness skills. Congratulations to our outstanding school board.
Education Foundation Honors Members, Sponsors
The Blue Springs Education Foundation held its annual Spring Into Giving Breakfast on Tuesday. The event celebrates Foundation members, BSEF scholarship recipients and community leaders who make the organization possible. This year, the BSEF has received $105,000 which will go a long way in creating opportunity and making a difference for our students, staff, and schools. Special recognition was given to Julius Oswald of the law firm of Oswald, Roam & Rew. Mr. Oswald and his firm have been a dedicated supporter of the Blue Springs School District and Foundation member since its inception. Entertainment for the breakfast was provided by student speaker Tristan Burns of Valley View High School, Thomas Ultican Elementary’s Guys with Ties club and Blue Springs High School sophomore singer Sam Aubuchon.
Accent on Academics
Accent on Academics Week celebrates students, freshman through senior, who have excelled academically throughout their high school careers. Students are recognized for maintaining at least a cumulative 3.5 grade point average in high school. Ceremonies are held at the Blue Springs Freshman Center and at Blue Springs and Blue Springs South High Schools. The District will honor 1,636 high school students during Accent on Academics celebrations this week.

Lake Remembrance
Located on 54 acres, Lake Remembrance has a fishing dock and a restroom. Small boats with electric motors are allowed on the lake, which is stocked with bass, catfish, crappie, and sunfish.
Landahl Park
Connecting parks and walking trails throughout Jackson County, Landahl Park is popular among outdoor enthusiasts throughout Missouri. Its paved trails are suitable for nature walkers, bicyclists, joggers and runners alike.
Blue Spring
Named the ‘Spring of the Summer Sky’ by the Osage Indians, Blue Spring is a spring known for its particularly clear water. The spring discharges 90 million gallons of water per day and is home to a variety of fish.
Parks & Recreation
The Parks & Recreation department of Blue Springs, MO operates 18 public parks and has 678 acres of park land located throughout the community. Services provided include the Blue Springs Fieldhouse, parks, trails, recreation programs, senior services, and online registrations.
Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area
Visitors can learn about the history of the native wildlife and plants at the exhibits at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area. There are several trails for visitors to hike through that pass by forests, ponds, creeks, and limestone.
Lake Jacomo Marina
Located in Fleming Park, Lake Jacomo Marina is a boat rental facility with over 80 boats available for rent. Visitors can also fish from the marina’s docks in season, and purchase appropriate licenses at the marina.

A 32-lane bowling center, Lunar Bowl offers open and league bowling with weekend cosmic bowling. The center provides a lounge with adult beverages, a high-definition projection screen for sports viewing, arcade games and live entertainment.

RInk Ratz Skating Rink
Not only does Rink Ratz Skating Rink host standard skate-nights, but it also supports local schools and home-schoolers with fund-raising events. Concessions and frequent open sessions, dances, and discount days are available.
Blue Springs Historical Society & Museum

History of Blue Springs:
Blue Springs is rich in history!
Blue Springs’ history is tied to the migration of settlers on their westward journey. Pioneers found the area to be an ideal stopover due to the abundance of cool, clean water from a spring of the Little Blue River – hence the name Blue Springs. The presence of water and a need for pioneer supplies led to the construction of a grist mill and permanent settlement at the current site of the City’s Burrus Old Mill Park, on Woods Chapel Road.
The Jackson County Court granted the incorporation of Blue Springs on September 7, 1880, making the City the fourth settlement in the county. An early settler, Franklin Smith, arrived in Blue Springs from Virginia in 1838 and became a leading figure in the community’s development. He established the first post office in 1845, naming it after the well-known springs.
The settlement continued to grow near the springs until 1878, when the Chicago and Alton Railroad announced plans to build a station about one mile east of the original settlement. The Chicago & Alton Hotel built in 1878, located on Main Street west of the railroad tracks is the oldest business in the City of Blue Springs.
Until 1965, the Blue Springs City Hall was located in a very small block building under the old water tower on the northwest corner of 11th and Walnut Streets. From 1965 to 1968, the second City Hall was a metal building located in the 200 block of 11th Street, across the street from the former Blue Springs Post Office. It also has since been torn down. In 1968 the current City Hall was built at 903 W. Main Street as the Blue Springs Municipal Building. The Blue Springs Municipal Building held the Blue Springs Police Department in the lower level and city hall functions on the main level until 1988, when the Police Department moved to a new police station at 1100 SW Smith Street. The Municipal Building was remodeled in 1989 and was renamed the Blue Springs City Hall.
The June 1911 issue of Technical World magazine published an article claiming that Blue Springs “boasts of possessing the world’s champion marble players,” and published a picture of a competition. It named Dan Stanley, George Webb, George Binger, and Lynn Pryor as the best.
On May 24, 2012, Chris Oberholtz & Dave Jordan of KCTV5 reported that several residents had seen strange lights in the evening sky above Blue Springs.
